ADVERTISER WOLLONGONG Only a few model making enthusiasts passed by when the Illawarra Plastic Model Makers Association held its first exhibition and exhibition 15 years ago. The event got so big that organizers were forced to move to larger premises, with this weekend’s 2015 edition being held at Illawarra Sports Stadium in Hooka Creek Road, Berkeley. In previous years, hundreds of Australia’s top model builders have converged on the much smaller Koonawarra Community Center for the two-day event. Organizers are confident to attract more model builders and up to 3,000 people on May 2-3. Illawarra Plastic Modellers Secretary / Treasurer and avid modeler Darren Dickerson said the model standard was world class. “The good news is that we will have even more displays and merchants this year because our new site is so much bigger,” he said. Association president Patrick Brady added that the timing of the move coincided “nicely” with the show’s 15th anniversary. “This is a special year for us and for the show.“ Celebrating this is going to be bigger and better than ever, ”he said.
